A tale of three cities in a week's travel

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

It's been a while since I have last spoken of my travels and what has been happening lately. I have been blessed to have travelled to the West coast and witness the goodness of God to the people of Lambert's bay. as always, I will start the story from the beginning.

The final week in Lambert's bay

It was an emotional end to my stay in Lambert's bay. Having enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Atlantic Ocean and the wonderful sunset with frequent walks on the sands of a normally quiet beach, it was time to say goodbye. Earlier during the week, I got to return a visit from Uncle Brian from the harbor who took me on a tour to the ships around the harbor. It was my first time so deep in the waters and it was quite a blessing to have had such an experience. I also happened to chat to Bright for the last time and it would be after a few hours that I left the ship having said goodbye a while back.

A few days later, Brian came to say goodbye and as a kind gesture, cooked us a meal of one of his favorite fish for supper. We also had visits from Juan and Quinten who also wanted to wish us a safe journey. Not long after Uncle Wits and Auntie Inna joined the farewell party. It was amazing how we got to fellowship with the people in Lambert's bay and labour amoungst the brethren there.

A trip to Carnarvon

It was an early morning to travel and we quickly packed up the remainder of out belongings that we had failed to put into the caravan the night before. Eventually when all was said and done, off we went to Gauteng although we would make several stops along the way.

The first stop was Carnarvon where we would spend a night at the popular Lord Carnarvon guest house. Carnarvon is a small town and from my observation, it was clear everyone knew each other. I got to speak to one gentleman who remained anonymous for the entire part of our conversation stating that he had just moved to Carnarvon and that he had been staying in Johannesburg for a while. Apparently, he spoke French, which was a bit of a surprise, so we briefly exchanged some French phrases within our dialogue.

After having had some supper, it was time to find some rest. It was easier said than done as the weekend vibe seemed to have reached our ears as we endured the sounds of the noisy street probably filled with people who were half conscious after having too much to drink. Well, the man I spoke to did warn us of the need for spirituel guidance in that community.

A trip to Kimberly

The next morning, we went off to Kimberly which was a lengthy drive from Carnarvon. Along the way we experienced a punctured tyre. It was fortunate that Tian realized it early and we quickly made a stop beside an uneven, rocky landscape on the side of the road, to do a tyre change. It was not long before we were back on the road again.

Eventually, we found ourselves in the once famous mining city of Kimberly, greatly famed for it's diamond wealth in the centuries gone by. The one place that attracts a lot of tourism is the Big Hole, which is home to the story of how the diamond rush began with the legend of a young boy who picked up a shiny piece of glass rock only to discover, later, that it was a diamond. Taking a walk down memory lane, I began to retrace the story of how this once small town developed into one of South Africa's richest cities over time. It was also great to visit the McGregor museum as well as the skate park not far from it.

Looking back, the De beers and I had a lovely time touring this city although our stay was only for a limited time.

A trip to Bloemhof dam

Having spent some time in Kimberly, it was time to find our way to Bloemhof dam. It was not long before we bumped into Lambert and Gheran, which was a surprise, since, I knew them from reading following them on a social media platform. After exchanging friendly hugs and chatting the while, we decided to link up later on for some fellowship.

That evening Lambert and Gheran joined us for a braai and fellowship. Gheran brought his guitar with him and so we sang some praise songs and shared testimonies of what God was doing in our lives over a supper meal. It was actually interesting to hear from them and what they were doing.

The Bloemhof dam is quite a fishing spot and the locals seemed to rate it highly and the carp was a favorite catch for the greater part of the day. One of the locals who drove by with a tractor became a beneficiary of one fish wich Ruhan had managed to catch. We also managed to share with him the gospel of John in Suthu.

Tian also managed to meet up with some brethren at a local supermarket and invited them over for some coffee. Well when the two men did come, they shared some interesting way of sharing the gospel using the tabernacle for their analogy.

We enjoyed our fellowship with the brethren at Bloemhof dam and we pray that the Lord will continue to strengthen them as they move along their journey. As of now we have just arrived in Mayerton and it is our hope that we will fellowship with family and friends. Until next time, may God bless.

Brother Bradley.

It was very good how our Heavenly Father allowed us to meet and have fellowship. May heavenly Father bless you and the family.
