Christian testimonies: Taking the gospel to the streets Part 2

Updated: 5 days ago

Sent to the streets Part Two

Greetings and salutations.

These past few days have reminded me how God often speaks through the simple moments we experience on the streets. Meeting people from different walks of life has stirred something in my heart, taking me back to my own journey before Christ — a season of searching, much like the moment I wrote about in Sent: Becoming a Fisher of Men, sitting quietly on a train, unaware of the story God was beginning to write.

A Quiet Encounter With a Loud Message

One morning, while walking through town, I passed a small shelter made of plastic sheets. Inside stood a man warming himself over a dying fire. He held a worn-out book in his hands, completely absorbed in it. When our eyes met, I felt God tug at my heart, bringing to mind the words of Jesus:

“I was hungry, and you gave Me food.I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink.I was a stranger, and you welcomed Me.” — Matthew 25:35

Those words settled deeply in me. I remembered times when someone else’s kindness helped carry me through. From that day forward, whenever I cooked, I made an extra plate for that man. No speeches. No preaching. Just practical love — the kind Jesus taught us to give.

Sharing the Gospel in Sunninghill

Lately, I’ve been sharing the gospel around Sunninghill — at bus stops, street corners, and even outside malls. It hasn’t always been easy, but the joy of watching God touch lives makes every step worth it.

At the bus stop this week, a man paused to listen as I preached. I shared Scripture with him and felt led to hand out Bibles to bus drivers and passengers who gathered nearby.

Later that week, I preached outside a mall. The response wasn’t always warm, but the message went forth, and God used it in ways I couldn’t predict.

Sent to Alexandra

A few days ago, the Holy Spirit led me to Alexandra Township. It’s a vibrant place — full of movement and life — yet underneath the noise, many hearts are longing for hope.

With my microphone and speaker, I felt prompted to stop in front of a small spaza shop owned by a Muslim man. It wasn’t the easiest place to stand and preach, but the conviction was clear.

As I began sharing the gospel, people slowly gathered. Some listened quietly; others watched from a distance. I didn’t know who the message would reach, but I trusted the One who sent me.

Days later, a man who sells scones approached me.

“I saw you preaching the other day,” he said. “It was good to hear someone speak about Jesus.”

I promised to bring him a Bible. Then a woman selling nearby called out:

“When are you bringing the pulpit back this side again?”

Her words surprised me. I truly thought no one had been paying attention that day. But God had already been planting seeds — quietly, faithfully, beyond what I could see.

And that’s the beauty of obedience:We may not see the impact immediately, but God is always working.

Encouragement for You

If you find yourself stepping out in faith and not seeing results, don’t lose heart. God sees every act of obedience, every conversation, every prayer whispered when no one else is around.

Jesus promised:

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:20

Keep going. Keep sowing. Keep loving people where they are.

Someone’s breakthrough may be waiting on your simple act of obedience.

Scripture Reflection

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap,if we do not lose heart.” — Galatians 6:9

Prayer

Father, thank You for the people You bring across our path. Give us the courage to obey Your voice and love others the way You love us. May every word we speak and every act we offer draw people closer to you. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Until next time. May the peaceof the Lord be with you.
