Christian testimonies; A trip back to Kosi bay

Updated: Mar 30, 2024

The trip to Kosi bay

Greetings to you all the readers of this blog post. It gives me great joy to share with you the goodness of God in this very article. First and foremost my thanks go out to all the people that made this trip possible. The people that opened their homes for us, those that offered a helping hand and thèse that prayed for us. We give thanks and praise to the Almighty God, for sending you. Without further ado we will rewind the clock and start this story from the beginning. Hope it will be a blessings to you.

From Johannesburg to Witbank

One of the benefits of travelling on a Saturday is that you get fewer people on the road. Well, I was lucky to have gotten a taxi that was going straight to Wanderers, in Johannesburg. With three bags full of luggage, in the middle of a busy street in Johannesburg that can often times be a nightmare. So at least that hurdle was out of the way and soon I was on a taxi to Witbank or Emalahleni as is it often called.

What did baffle me though, was how short of a trip it was. Two hours in total. I was excited to see the two families, the Cronje’s and the Fourie’s. Prior to this trip, to Witbank, it had been almost four months since last I last saw the Cronje’s and the Fourie’s. That was in George at Marc and Carly’s wedding back in December.

I managed to make my way to a KFC in Witbank, where I waited outside for a white bakkie. It wasn’t long before it arrived and there was Henri who greeted me with a warm smile. After exchanging handshakes we set out for the Fouries. It was there that we got welcomed by the Tasha, Yolandi and the kids and later Shaun who had been out.

It was great to spend time with both families and friends to reflect on the goodness of God and what He has been doing since the last time we spoke. It also great to have had the time to fellowship and a Bible study, to end the evening. The day was like what King Solomon would describe as a vapor, that when in one moment you think you have, the next, it is gone.

The following morning, we were off to a trip to Kosi bay. After leaving Witbank and we drove through the plains of Mpumalanga which led us to an uphill mountain between Carolina and Amsterdam. It was there that our car broke down. On hot summer day, the last thing you would want is steam coming from the front of your car.

At the time, my eyes were half open and it then when I heard Henri and Yolandi, talking pointing and pointing at the bonnet that I realised how dire the situation was. We all rushed out of the car and there was the steam coming out the car. While we were all trying to find a solution, we stopped and decided to pray and it wasn’t long before God sent a good Samaritan along our way, with a Ford ranger pick up truck to help. It was quite a relief. He manged to tow us from where we were stuck all the way to Piet Rétif. That is when God answers a prayer in an an instant.

In Piet Rétif, we were met by Timon a fellow disciple who offered us a place to stay. While we were there we took time to share the gospel with a few people on the streets of Piet Rétif. We saw a miracle that day. A lady whose feet had been giving her a discomfort was healed. By the Grace of God we managed to get the part that would solve the mechanical problem. I still believe that God had a hand in preventing the vehicle we were in from further damage as a result of prayer and intercession. At least one can testify that God does make surte that His plan remains on track and is fulfilled.

Back on track to Kosi bay

Now I know many ot you who are reading this for the first time will probably be asking me,“ Where is this place called Kosi bay?.“. Honestly speaking, it never rang a bell hearing about how this particular name until one day when Henri Cronje invited me here, back in mid July 2022. Fast forward to 2024. The Cronje’s and I have made our return at last, to this natural habitat, home to many hippos and probably the friendliest communal community in a place called Manguzi. As you have seen so far, this journey took some twists and turns, but we finally against all odds, we made it without a doubt, knowing that the Lord has so much to show us.

So far we have had the opportunity to engage with a community of God’s people in Manguzi through a SOLT initiative program. It was great to see the Vilakazi family again. Itr was also great to see Phillip an old missionary friend of ours and the developments in his ministry here in Manguzi . It's quite a breath of fresh air to be in the countryside far from the buzz of the city. We are asking, kindly that you stand with us in prayer and that we continue to do good. Do not be weary of doing what is good and righteous. All thanks also go to the Good Samaritan, Oom Timus who helped us along the road. You taught me that obedience is important.

Well until next time. May the peace of the Lord be with you.
