Bible study week: Sharing Jesus part 1

Greetings to all the readers of this blog. I am glad to say that this week has been an interesting week. As our topic states, "Sharing Jesus", my main concern is the state of the modern church and how it has departed from the blueprint set in the book of Acts. In as much as I have seen a picture of certain "so çalled", megachurches advocating for wealth and prosperity, my worry is how many of those people in the congregation, actually know Jesus and will be counted as those worthy of the Heavenly Kingdom on Earth. Without diverting from the topic, let us take some time to study what the Bible has to say. Please also watch the video below for more context on the topic.

Matthew 18 verse 19 to 20

The Great Commission is found in **Matthew 28:19-20**. Here’s the verse:

*"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."*

It is often quoted as the Great Commission and often times the church today has attended to dilute the truth behind the command Jesus left to his disciples. He says that his disciples should go and baptize the other fellow believers in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Emphasizing that they (the new believers) should learn from what has been taught.

I would like to pause there for a moment and take you to a bakery where they bake bread. There is no way one can lewrn the art of baking and call himself a baker unless he has made a perfect loaf of bread. But to be a baker one has to observe the master bakers at work and live up to that standard.

By the same token we as disciples have to do what Jesus has commanded us to do.

The promise

At the end of that statement Jesus promises that he will be with us always. Well, these are not just comforting words but an actual promise that tries to make the disciples of jesus they do not have to worry about what will be happening in the present moment around them but rather to follow Jesus and be where he is because he will always be with his disciples.

Later in the book of Acts, an angel releases Peter from prison so that he can share the gospel in the synagogues. Now if that isn't enough Paul survived many near death experiences. Going to show that no Kingdom on Earth has the power to stop the kingdom of Heaven. Jesus has been given all the authority.

Why did mention all this? Well, we have succumbed to the belief that we as ordinary believers cannot share our faith with our community yet what we fail to realize is the severity of our disobedience. Many single acts of obedience have produced fruit in many communities.

The challenge

Read through the entire chapter of Matthew 18 and share with Jesus what he really meant in his words when he was talking to his disciples.

The principle

A disciple who is called is commanded to Go and make disciples of all nations. Often times I thought that believers did this out of fear for divine punishment yet it is only recently that I discovered it was just préparation for a period to come.

Salutations

I would like to share more on this topic next week but for now I ask that you ponder on what I have just presented to you. Please don't forget to invite someone who needs Jesus and make him feel at home. Until next time it’s goodbye.
